ABOUT THE COACH

IMG_3672.HEIC

Let's start with the simple question... who am I and why should I be coaching you or your loved one? Well, I am Bryce Bradley and I have been running competitively for nearly 15years at the middle school, high school, collegiate, and professional levels. If you're interested in my experience at those levels, what I went through, and how it shaped me head over to my coaching philosophy.

Throughout my athletic career I considered myself to be a student of not only distance running but physical activity and wellness. I asked questions, volunteered, read books, made connections, and earned certifications to become the best coach that I could be. Here are the nitty gritty details...

PERSONAL LIFE

Some might say Bryce, why share so much of your life? Well, because I want to be a resource for you in whatever way I can. Running and beyond.

My wife Abi (codename Iba) and I have been married for 4 years but have known each other since diapers and have been together for over a decade.

Most recently, we welcomed Squish, the Aussie Doodle, to our small family.

We love to travel. Together, Abi and I have lived and taught in Kenya for a summer. Additionally, we have been to the Dominican Republic and Scotland together.

Most recently, as a delayed honeymoon, we converted a van and spent most of June 2021 in Utah.

I have run 3 marathons but never run one officially. The first 2 were in High School after the state meet and the 3rd was on Christmas morning... I don't really know why.

Since I stopped running competitively I've found myself doing more cycling.

I built my own bike (a Salsa Warbird named Newman) and have found myself tinkering and tearing bikes apart ever since.

I have rode many centuries and most notably rode across Michigan from Belle Isle to Kirk Park to raise money for mental health organizations across the state.

I have also found myself (spoiler alert) enjoying the world of CrossFit.
The best part about what I do? If I'm not coaching... I'm probably coaching! I recently started coaching CrossFit at Great Lakes CrossFit in Holland Michigan. I've found that Coaching CrossFit has not only refreshed my strength and conditioning knowledge, but also enhanced it. I'm excited to see what some of these principles I can bring to running.

Additionally, I work at Gazelle Sports in Grand Rapids and have been there for the last 5 years.

A good rule of thumb if you ever need to find me... If I'm not at work, I'm probably somewhere outside. If I'm not somewhere outside, I'm probably playing Legend of Zelda or working on some sort of (probably obscure) project.

Oh yea, I also collect Rubiks Cubes and am an ordained minister.
